Shelter Worker
Position Title: Shelter Worker | Job ID: 115
Classification: Transition House Worker, Grid Level 10, JJEP Wage Grid.
Objective
The Shelter Worker supports clients in the shelter by providing for their basic needs. Shelter Workers are responsible to engage and support guests, ensure the shelter is safe and clean, monitor and log shelter activity, respond in the event of an emergency, and communicate effectively with other staff and administration.

Shelter Manager
Responsibilities
- Engage guests and develop supportive relationships, maintaining professional boundaries
- Maintain a working knowledge of guest medical alerts and special care instructions
- Assist with guest intake and orientation, helping new guests familiarize themselves with sleeping arrangements, bed assignments, checking guest ID for suitability to the shelter and shelter policies and procedures
- Monitor shelter areas to ensure guest safety and compliance with shelter policies
- Serve meals, perform regular cleaning duties, participate in shelter set up/tear down, and attend to the outside grounds as needed which may include lawn and garden maintenance and keeping sidewalks clean and clear.
- Ensures housekeeping services such as laundry, housecleaning, maintaining supplies and minor maintenance are completed, move out cleaning of guest rooms and assisting guests when needed
- Communicate effectively using shelter logs and incident reports
- Exercise appropriate judgment to respond promptly during overdoses, conflicts, and other emergencies, applying first aid and de-escalation techniques as needed.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Education and Knowledge
Diploma in a related human / social service field.
Training and Experience
- One (1) Year recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- First Aid Certificate: Level C or equivalent
