Welcome to SUMS Place Society

Same Mission. Same Heart. A New Name.

2025 Annual Report Strategic Plan Name Change Letter from the CEO

An Important Announcement to All Staff

Today, we are excited to share an important milestone in the history of our organization.

Surrey Urban Mission Society is now officially SUMS Place Society. This change reflects who we are today, the communities we serve, and the future we are building together. While our name is changing, our mission, values, and commitment to our guests remain the same.

Why Are We Changing Our Name?

For more than 30 years, our organization has served people experiencing homelessness, poverty, food insecurity, and isolation throughout Surrey. What began as a community kitchen has grown into a diverse network of shelters, meal programs, casework, and community support.

The name SUMS Place Society better reflects who we have become and how we want to grow.

A place is more than a building. It is where people find safety, dignity, support, and a sense of belonging.

What Is Not Changing?

Our Mission

To be a bridge for Christ’s love, nurturing hope in our community.

Looking Ahead

At its heart, SUMS Place is about belonging. It is about creating places where people are welcomed, supported, and treated with dignity. That commitment will continue to guide our work and shape our future.

While our name is changing, the heart of our work remains the same. We will continue providing meals, shelter, casework, and compassionate care while strengthening the programs, partnerships, and supports that help our guests find dignity, stability, and hope.

Supporting Our People

Our staff are the heart of SUMS Place Society. We remain committed to creating a workplace where every team member feels valued, supported, and equipped to do their best work.

Building Community

Through strong partnerships with churches, volunteers, donors, service providers, and community organizations, we will continue working together to create meaningful pathways of support for those we serve.

Growing Our Impact

As our community continues to evolve, we will look for new opportunities to respond with compassion, innovation, and care, ensuring our services remain relevant and accessible to those who need them most.

Building for the Future

By strengthening our systems, technology, facilities, and organizational foundations, we are preparing SUMS Place Society to continue serving our community with excellence for many years to come.

A place to rest. A place to heal. A place to belong.
